Dermaplaning is an exfoliating treatment that involves gently scraping the surface of your skin with a surgical scalpel. It is actually one of the most effective solutions for dealing with dull skin, which also helps to get rid of facial hair, makes your face feel baby soft and gives you a smooth base for makeup afterwards.

Who is it suitable for?

In the hands of a professional, dermaplaning is safe for most skin types, especially those with sun damage, fine lines, dry patches, and dull skin. A buildup of dead skin can clog your pores and hair follicles, which can not only cause pimples but also block your skincare products from penetrating the skin, which is why exfoliation is essential for maintaining an even, healthy glow. But, if you already have an existing breakout, you’ll unfortunately need to sit this treatment out.

What to expect after the treatment?

The results can vary for everyone, but you can expect to see a smoother surface, zero peach fuzz, and slightly brighter-looking skin after your dermaplaning appointment. And because it removes your face’s dead skin cells, your skincare products will better penetrate after that and will be more effective. You will  notice a difference in your skin’s texture and tone immediately after the treatment. Some light redness can be expected but not always.

What is the aftercare?

Since dermaplaning removes all the little hairs on your face, your makeup will actually glide on super smoothly. Although it’s tempting to see the results right away, try to avoid using makeup immediately after your dermaplaning treatment. It is recommended to use a rich hyaluronic acid mask or moisturizer for the aftercare to help repair your skin and keep it super hydrated. After the dermaplaning your skin will be especially sensitive to the sun, so it is important that you’ll use a gentle sunscreen of at least SPF 30.

Do not worry that dermaplaning will make your hair grow back thicker or darker. Once your hair begins to grow back, it might feel different because the hair was cut straight across, but it’s actually the same texture as it was before and it will continue to grow at the same speed.

Since this is a deeply exfoliating treatment, please wait at least a month between appointments, although some people with sensitive skin can even limit their treatments to once a season.
